Hello, all!

Wow, it has been an embarassingly-long time since I posted on my blog.  I need to fix that!  I must admit, that most of my news is coming out through Facebook (see previous post praising Facebook!).

So, I will certainly be posting announcements here, and hopfully some sessions here and there, but I must BEG you to join me on Facebook.  What a fun community, and a great way to keep up.

So, FIND ME!  A Moment Captured by Cindy Strickland (my business page) and Cindy Scott Strickland for my more personal posts.

Thomas Pleasant Strickland, III (Pleas to Many, Daddy to us)

Thomas Pleasant Strickland, III (Pleas)

Thomas Pleasant Strickland, III (Pleas)

For those of you who know my husband, you know him as Tim (unless you are a deputy in Leon County, then you know him as Silent Bob).  But what you may not know is that he is a “Fourth”.

Tim’s actual name is Thomas Pleasant Strickland, IV.  He and I are both 5th generation Floridians and he was born and raised in Tallahassee, FL.  His father, Thomas Pleasant Strickland, III, who was also born and raised in Tallahassee, is known by the community as Pleas.

If you have been to my studio here on County Road 12, you have visited his old stomping grounds!  We have 10 acres here; 9 acres on one side of 12, one acre on the other side.  Once upon a time, Tim’s father’s home rested on the acre across the street and the one-room schoolhouse on Beth Page Road was where he walked to school.  Just up the road in Georgia, he attended Beth Page United Methodist Church.  He worked for the Department of Agriculture for over 40 years, attends St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and is on the board at Flag Credit Union.  I am obviously proud of my Father-in-Law, and have a great deal of respect for what he has done for his home town.

Recently, I received a call from him asking for me to create a portrait that will hang at the credit union recognizing him as a board member.  With delight, I captured this very classic portrait of a man I admire.

I Love Lucie!

Lucie is so sweet.  She would do anything we wanted… with a smile on her face!  What a cutie pie… I love working with her.  In fact, working doesn’t really explain it, really.  We actually played together, truth be told.

But when she was done, she was done.  When we nudged her for one last smile, she said with a sweet determination, “I MEAN it!”.

Amen.

Facebook HAS OPENED UP MY WORLD! Again!

•January 6, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I LOVE Facebook!  If you are not a member, you really can’t understand what I mean, but if you are you will understand.

I have found a whole group of friends that I thought was long gone.  You know, the people in your life that were wonderful and fun and changed who you are, but when you leave college or high school, or that first job, or your sorority, they are gone.  Forever a part of your life, but not a part of your daily living.

Silly as it sounds, I have been able to add those people back into my life.  I have found people who have meant the world to me, and I have found those people who don’t even know how much they changed me.  And it doesn’t take much to get a peek into their worlds again.  Some of their wall entries (sorry, Facebook lingo!) are serious and full of concern, some of them are silly and fun.  Some are inspiring, some are gross!  All of them are a wonderful way of sharing themselves as they are living their lives today, this moment.

For those of you who are on Facebook, please send me a friend request!  I would love to peek into your world, too!

And when you come in for a session, I will provide you with an image for your facebook page.  Normally, there is a $25 usage fee, but if you keep my logo as part of the image, I will let you use it for your profile picture at no charge!  I love to share the images we capture together, and I love that you want to share them with your friends, both near and far.

One caution… It can SUCK YOU IN!  So, budget your Facebook time, and I will, TOO!

Enjoy!  Cindy

2008 Photographer of the Year!

2008 Tallahassee Photographer of the Year
2008 Tallahassee Photographer of the Year

I am so happy to announce that I have been awarded with the 2008 TALLAHASSEE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR by the Tallahassee Professional Photographers’ Guild.

To me, this is a special award because it is given based on the photographic images presented each month by members of this professional organization.  During each monthly gathering, members bring samples of their images to be judged by all members and guests of the Guild.  This award is based almost exclusively on the number of times a person who wins the most “Print of the Month” competitions.

It is by no means a popularity contest, but is based on the photographic skills and artistry shown by the photographer and therefore carries great weight in the local photographic community.  I accept the award with honor, respect, and a great deal of gratitude.

Thank you to all my clients for sharing their lives with me, and allowing me to capture the smallest moments shared within their families.  It is an honor I do not take lightly, and appreciate each of you and how you have touched me and my life.

Nathan Shah can’t stop grinning!

A photographer’s dream.  That’s what I call Nathan.  He can’t stop grinning!  He is fun, funny, and his sweet soul is gushing out of him!  Andrea and I knew we were in trouble when the session began.  Then, we were proven correct during the order session.

I think Mom and Dad’s idea of a dinner date after the order session (to the Melting Pot, no less!), was fantastic and I love they made a night of it all.  Now, sit back and enjoy the grinner!!!

Hillary and John knew that Carter would have a sibling, but it was LATE into the pregnancy before they realized he would have 2!  What fun to have them all in the studio, celebrating the arrival-S!

The Secreast Family Farm

•January 2, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Anyone who has lived here for very long knows that Tallahassee is a small town.  Clarice’s famly has lived just outside Tallahassee for generations, and the old homestead is beautiful!  A photographer’s dream really.  The favorite spot of the whole group was the old oak tree that you pass on the long driveway in to the farm house.

Obviously, the girls love visiting their grandmother there, and the stories of Clarice’s childhood come to life when you sit on the same tree limbs she sat on as a child and walk down the same paths she enjoyed.  This was a really nice session for all of us.  Even the cat got into the images!
